Privacy policy
Last updated: October 31, 2026. Applies to the Linkcrisp — Broken Link Checker browser extension and this website.
In short: the extension reads the links on the page you ask it to check and requests those links from your browser. Page content, URLs and the sites you visit are never sent to us. Once a day it sends anonymous totals such as “checks run: 5”, which you can switch off.
The extension
What it reads, and where that stays
- Links on the page you check (address and link text), only when you click Check or choose “Check links on this page”. They are processed in your browser and kept in your browser’s storage until you close the tab or run a new check.
- Pages of a site you scan (when you start a whole-site scan): the extension reads the site’s robots.txt and sitemap, then downloads those pages to find their links. Results are kept in your browser’s storage until your next scan.
- The address and title of the tab you check, to show them in the panel and in the report. While a result is open, the extension notices when that tab goes to another address, so it can clear results that no longer match. It does not keep a list of the pages you visit.
Requests it makes
- To check a link, your browser requests that link directly, the same way it would if you opened it. These requests go to the sites the links point to — not to us — and are sent without your cookies or logins.
- Links that sign you out or unsubscribe you (for example
/logout) are skipped.
What is sent to us
Once a day, if you haven’t turned it off, the extension sends one small message to https://linkcrisp.com/api/c with only:
- the extension version;
- how long ago it was installed, as a range (“today”, “1 day”, “2–6 days”, “7–13 days”, “14–29 days”, “30+ days”);
- totals of actions since the last message, from a fixed list (for example: checks started, checks finished, checks that found 0 / 1–5 / 6+ broken links, site scans, exports, Pro page opened);
- whether “Ignore header, footer & menus” is on.
It contains no identifier, no URLs, no domains, no page content and no timestamps. We don’t store IP addresses. Turn it off any time: extension settings → “Share anonymous usage counts”.
Permissions and why
- Access to sites (asked when you first check) — to request the links on a page and read pages during a site scan.
- activeTab, scripting — to read the links on the page you check and outline the results on it.
- storage — to keep results and your settings in your browser.
- sidePanel — to show results next to the page.
- contextMenus — the “Check links on this page” item.
- alarms — to send the daily anonymous totals.
When you uninstall
Chrome opens a short page asking why. The page address contains the extension version and the install-age range, nothing else. Answering is optional; we store your choice and any text you write, without an identifier. Please don’t include personal information.
